What is the Belak medallion?
*Belak medallions are traditional medals worn in East Timor. Warriors used to be awarded the Belak upon their return from war. The traditional medallions are flat and made of thin brass. Belak made from gold existed for village royals, and nowadays are kept in the sacred village huts and presented to the public during special harvest or village ceremonies.
