A small Belak, made to carry a larger story.
Belak is a traditional Timorese medallion associated with bravery and honour — a form I return to throughout my work.
For these Pearl Belak earrings, I've paired the hand-marked circular form with freshwater pearls, bringing a softness and natural irregularity to the design.
Each 1cm Belak is individually cut, shaped and marked by hand in my Brighton studio. Fine lines, subtle differences in shape and variations in the punched markings are traces of the making process rather than something to be removed.
The freshwater pearls are chosen for their natural character, with variations in shape, surface and lustre.
Together, these differences mean that each pair is individual.
